12:40 pm Europe opens: European stocks opened slightly higher as investors stay sidelined amid continued debate among Federal Reserve officials over the timing of a US rate hike and ahead of a speech by the central bank's chair Janet Yellen later in the day. The pan-European STOXX 600 was up 0.16 percent.

12:35 pm Edelweiss on Mahanagar Gas: The Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation has inked agreements with 4 civil contractors, including J Kumar Infra, for 6 project packages. This will enable the contractors to claim mobilisation advances and start work post the monsoon season, says Edelweiss. This project comprises around 50 percent of the company's order book.

12:20 pm Market Outlook: The sharp rally in the market does cause jitters, given the state of expensive valuations, especially in the midcap space, but overall, markets are moving in the right direction, says Vikas Khemani, President and CEO of Edelweiss Securities.

LIVE: Sensex, Nifty Open Flat

LIVE: Sensex, Nifty open flat; Allcargo Logistics, HPCL shares fall 

9.24 am: Allcargo Logistics fell over 5 per cent post Q1 results. The scrip was trading 5.27 per cent down  
at Rs 185 in the early trade.

9.18 am: Shriram EPC shares were trading 10.43 per cent up at Rs 24.35 in the early trade. Sensex was down 26.92 points at 27958, while Nifty was trading 9.95 points down at 8,619.  

9.15 am: Domestic benchmark indices opened on a flat note on Tuesday. Sensex opened 27.02 points up at 28012.56, while Nifty opened 0.80 points, or 0.01 per cent, down at 8,628.35.

8.07 am: The BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty are likely to open on a flat note with negative bias on Tuesday tracking Nifty futures on the Singapore Stock Exchange and mixed global cues. At 7.57 am (IST), SGX Nifty was down 10.50 points, or 0.12 per cent, at 8,617. Asian peers, Hang Seng and Nikkei were down by 0.28 per cent and 0.20 per cent, respectively, in the morning trade. However, Shanghai was trading up by 0.43 per cent.  

The 30-share Sensex dipped 91.46 points to 27985.54 on Monday with investors adopting cautious stance after the appointment of Urjit Patel as the next RBI chief, who is very unlikely to cut rates in view of high inflation. NSE Nifty 50 index closed 37.75 points down at 8,629.15.  

Shares of Pfizer and HPCL will remain in focus on Tuesday. Pfizer will pay about $14 billion to buy cancer drug developer Medivation in a cash deal aimed at fortifying its hold in one of the hottest and most lucrative areas of medicine.  

State-owned Hindustan Petroleum Corp (HPCL) on Monday registered a 30 per cent rise in its June quarter net profit to Rs 2,098.38 crore on rise in fuel sales and inventory gains. The oil marketing company posted a net profit of Rs 1614.13 crore in the corresponding quarter a year ago.

9.45 am: Grasim Industries was trading 3.11 per cent down at Rs 4397. However, Sensex was up by 284  
points at 28144, while Nifty was trading 74.15 points up at 8,666.30.

9.18 am: The 30-share index advanced further and was trading 173.45 points up at 28033. Nifty was trading 38.95 points up at 8,631. Shares of Aditya Birla Nuvo were trading 19.33 per cent down at Rs 1,263.

9.15 am: Benchmark Sensex opened 60.35 points up at 27919.95, while Nifty 50 index opened 13.30 points up at 8605.45.  

PRE-OPENING The BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty are likely to open on flat note with positive bias tracking Nifty futures on the Singapore Stock Exchange (SGX Nifty) and firm global cues. At 8.00 am (IST), SGX Nifty was up 4 points, or 0.05 per cent, at 8, 621. Asian peers, Hang Seng, Nikkei and Shanghai were trading higher by 0.58 per cent, 0.76 per cent and 0.20 per cent, respectively.  

The 30-share index Sensex closed 84.72 points higher on Thursday on account of buying in select blue-chip counters amid mixed global cues. Nifty settled 16.85 points up at 8,592.15.

Market Update

Shares of Tata Power Company rose 2.2 percent intraday Wednesday as the Tata Group Company is likely to see reduction in interest cost post refinancing of rupee loans.
Stocks of state-controlled lender IFCI rose 4.3 percent on news that the company has sold partial stake in National Stock Exchange (NSE). The stock hit an intraday high of Rs 28.05, its highest level since December 4.
GLOBAL MARKET OVERVIEW
Asian shares glided higher in early trading on Wednesday, taking their cues from overseas gains, although investors are cautiously watching to see whether renewed selling in crude oil futures will dent sentiment.
On Wall Street, major US indexes each gained more than 1 percent. All 10 major S&P sectors ended with gains, led by a 1.34-percent rise in the technology sector.

The S&P BSE Sensex started on a flat note with a positive bias on Tuesday, led by gains in HDFC, RIL, NTPC, Tata Motors, L&T, and Lupin.The Nifty50 started on a flat note, but the index was trading above its crucial support level of 7,900, supported by gains in realty, power, oil & gas, and auto stocks.
The S&P BSE Midcap Index was up 0.33 per cent and BSE S&P Smallcap Index was trading 0.28 per cent higher.
The 30-share BSE Sense up 195 points at 26034. The market breadth was strong as about 1524 shares advanced against 1175 declining shares on the BSE.
Mutual fund houses continued to be bullish on the equity markets in 2015 and purchased shares worth a staggering over Rs 70,000 crore, primarily on account of strong participation from retail investors.
Shares of Tata Power gained 3.2 percent intraday Monday on signing memorandum of understanding with Russian government for investment in energy sector.
GLOBAL MARKET OVERVIEW
Asian stocks were steady in quiet trade on Monday, drawing heart after a rebound in crude oil that took prices away from multi-year lows.
Japan's Nikkei was also up 0.1 percent. The Nikkei, lifted in part by Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe's reflationary policies, was headed for its fourth straight year of gains.
US crude gained last week thanks to falling inventories, reduced drilling and the lifting of a ban on most U.S. crude exports.

Live: Sensex falls 45 points; logistics stocks fall as GST hopes fade

Indian benchmark stock indices drop further flat after sliding to three-month lows on Tuesday. The 30-share S&P BSE Sensex falls 45.46 points, or 0.18%, to 25,264.87, while the Nifty is down 15.65 points, or 0.2%, to 7,686.05.
Logistics stocks drop as goods and services tax (GST) seems to have hit another roadblock after Congress offensive casts shadow on reforms push. Gati Ltd drops 5.8%, Blue Dart 1% and VRL Logistics 3.5%.
Indian Rupee Update


The Indian rupee opens unchanged at 66.84 per US dollar as most traders stayed cautious ahead of the US Federal Reserve’s rate-setting meet due next week.
The yield on India’s 10-year benchmark bond is trading at 7.799% compared with its Tuesday’s close of 7.801%. It opened at 7.795% and touched a high of 7.802%—a level last seen on 30 November.
The US dollar is trading at 122.88 yen, down from 122.99 yen in the previous session. The euro rises to $1.0899 from $1.0888.
Shares of Tata Motors gained nearly 2 percent intraday Tuesday on strong retail sales in November by its UK subsidiary and luxury car maker.
Rating agency ICRA has downgraded the rating on the proposed Rs 750-crore non-convertible debenture programme of Eros International Media Ltd citing concerns of parent company’s reduced financial flexibility and also revised outlook to negative from positive. ICRA said it has revised the the rating on Eros’ NCD programme to A+ from AA- .
Most large caps trading cheap, not all are bargains 
Analysts rank HDFC Bank, Axis Bank and consumer goods company Dabur India as promising picks among BSE 100 stocks. Others on their radar are LIC HousingBSE 0.43 % Finance, Hero MotoCorpBSE -1.02 %, Tata Consultancy Services and UltraTech Cement. It may not be apparent from the lacklustre performance of benchmark indices, which have lost nearly 10% from the year ago, nor would it be obvious from economic growth of 7.4% in the September quarter.But two out of every three comp ..

 Market Update
The market has opened flat on Monday. The Sensex is down 30.66 points at 25579.55 and the Nifty is down 13.00 points at 7776.30. About 429 shares have advanced, 204 shares declined, and 34 shares are unchanged. Tata Steel, Wipro, Sun Pharma, TCS and HUL are top gainers while ICICI Bank, Infosys, Reliance, Vedanta and HDFC are early losers.
The Sensex is down 4.85 points at 25,605.36, after rising to 25,706.00 earlier. The Nifty is down 3.60 points at 7785.10

Indian broad indices showed mixed movement and closed on negative note. On sectorial front Infra, Media and Auto were up while Metal sector traded downside with 1.52%. Sensex was down by 11 points at 25610 & Nifty future declined by 23 points to settle at 7785 level. European markets traded downside.
The dollar, euro and yen all got off to a slow start with investors sticking to the sidelines as the countdown begins on whether the Federal Reserve will hike interest rates for the first time in nearly a decade.
