Indian stock markets traded flat on Friday amid increased volatility as investors brace for the electoral verdict next week. The BSE Sensex traded 0.2 per cent higher and the Nifty index held on to the key 6,650 levels, rising over 10 points in morning trade.

Key benchmark indices swung between gains and losses near the flat line in early trade. The barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, was currently unchanged at 22,342.93, up about 25 points from the day's low and off close to 30 points from the day's high. The market breadth, indicating the overall health of the market, was positive.

The CNX Nifty was up 5.60 points or 0.08% to 6,665.45. The index hit a high of 6,667.05 in intraday trade. The index hit a low of 6,652.15 in intraday trade.
