The market closed lower for the third consecutive session on
Friday due to selling pressure in technology, banks, healthcare and auto
stocks. The Sensex fell 223.94 points to 28442.10 and the Nifty lost 100.70
points to 8606.Key benchmark indices extended fall and hit fresh intraday low
in mid-afternoon trade. The 50-unit CNX Nifty hit its lowest level in more than
a week. The fall in the Nifty in percentage terms was higher than the decline
in the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex.
The Sensex was
currently off 152.64 points or 0.53% at 28,513.40. The Nifty was currently off
72.65 points or 0.83% at 8,634.05. The fall in the Nifty in percentage terms
was higher than the decline in the Sensex because a number of Nifty constituents
which are not part of the Sensex declined. All these are Nifty constituents
which are not part of the Sensex. The market breadth indicating the overall
health of the market was negative. The CNX Nifty was down 72.65 points or 0.83%
at 8,634.05. The index hit a low of 8,629.90 in intraday trade, its lowest
level since 7 April 2015. The index hit a high of 8,699.85 in intraday trade.
