The market ended at lower level. Nifty ends at 8711.70 (down
12 points), after sinking below 8700 intraday. The Sensex is down 32.14 points
at 28850.97. About 1025 shares have advanced, 1889 shares declined and 229
shares are unchanged. Volatility ruled the roost as key benchmark indices
extended gains in mid-afternoon trade. 
The barometer index, the
S&P BSE Sensex, hit its highest level in almost a week. While the Sensex,
and the 50-unit CNX Nifty, both, surged, there was lack of strength in the
broad market. The market breadth indicating the overall health of the market
was negative. The CNX Nifty was up 103.90 points or 1.19% at 8,827.60. The
index hit a high of 8,838.45 in intraday trade, its highest level since 2
February 2015. The index hit a low of 8,705.05 in intraday trade.
