Equity benchmarks closed marginally
lower amid consolidation on Tuesday ahead of two state elections (Maharashtra
and Haryana) tomorrow. The Sensex fell 34.74 points to close at 26349.33 and
the Nifty declined 20.25 points to 7864. About 1301 shares have advanced, 1622
shares declined, and 109 shares are unchanged.
The barometer index, the S&P BSE
Sensex, was currently down 22.65 points or 0.08% at 26,361.42. The market
breadth indicating the overall health of the market was negative.The index lost
172.06 points at the day's low of 26,212.01 in mid-morning trade. CNX Nifty was
down 16.30 points or 0.21% at 7,867.95. The index hit a low of 7,825.45 in
intraday trade.
